Marketplace Leaders

Houseparty 1-2 May 2006

"Ask of me and I will make the nations your inheritance"
Psalm 2:8, Psalm 22:27-28, Rom 8:17, Rom 16:26, Heb 11:33, Rev 2:26

Invitation

We are in a battle: pluralism has disenfranchised the Judeo-Christian heritage of our nation. Secularism has marginalised the church. Notoriety within the church has rocked its public credibility. Post modernism has undermined biblical authority. Anti-Christian forces opposed to religious freedom have impacted our legal and social systems. Hedonism discards Christian values and damages the fabric of the nation. Major corporations have collapsed through ethical failures of leadership. The era of disposable relationships has migrated from business contracts to the home.

The marketplace is in the thick of it. This is the place where business, the media, government, education and education set out to influence society. And this is the place where working Christians spend around 67% of their waking time Monday to Friday.

What are we ready to ask of God for our nation? As co-heirs with Christ do we just accept the status quo? This is an exciting place of mission for those ready to accept the challenge!

As a leader with a passion for the marketplace YOU ARE INVITED to a special houseparty. We say houseparty because this will not be a conference - but rather a gathering of people sharing a common passion to impact the marketplace for Christ. This two day event will be crafted to balance time between:

  • insights from leaders of different locations and streams

  • sharing of hopes and challenges

  • connecting over coffee, meals and recreation

  • celebration.

The gathering seeks to allocate about 50% of the time to conversation and 50% to reports, challenges and visioning. We are looking to an outcome that integrates:

  • intercession

  • unity (John 17:18-23)

  • obedience to the prophetic word of God.

Along with these foundations there are three primary strategies we see as important to elevate Christian effectiveness in the marketplace. These are:

  • connecting

  • collaborating

  • catalysing new work in marketplace gaps.

We are delighted to announce that many of the marketplace leaders in Australia have indicated their intention to attend. We also have key leaders from New Zealand coming.

Because this is not a conference there will not be a focus on speakers. However Gordon Preece and Jim Wallace will be facilitators and will each present an address during our time together:

Gordon Preece

"The Marketplace Mandate, Christ and our work-world".
Gordon is Director and Dean of Macquarie Christian Studies. Previously Gordon was director of the Centre of Applied Christian Ethics at Ridley College. Gordon is a world leader in the field of marketplace theology and leadership. He has authored eight books and completed his PhD at Fuller Theological Seminary. He has been a youth worker, a business man and a minister at several Anglican churches in Sydney.

Jim Wallace

"Impacting the nation through the marketplace".

Jim Wallace is Executive Chairman of the Australian Christian Lobby. This rapidly growing organisation aims to promote a better understanding of Christian values in our community. He left the Army in 2000 after a 32-year career, which included commands in the SAS, Special Forces, and the Army’s mechanised brigade. He was awarded the AM in 1984 for services to counter terrorism.

Peter Kentley
Peter is the founder and CEO of Australian Marketplace Connections (AMC). For over 25 years Peter has been a leader in Christian ministry in the airlines in Australia and overseas. He was a long haul airline pilot, instructor and training manager before leaving the airlines to serve as a widely accepted Christian leader in the marketplace. Peter attends St Hilary's Anglican church Kew.
