The passion of the
Christ - Mel Gibson In the "Passion of the Christ" Mel Gibson has exemplified the heart and soul of mission in the marketplace. He has, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, offered his talents and capacities to God in his film making profession. He has honoured the work of Christ in his workplace regardless of personal cost. He has seen his vocation as his mission. Regardless of the graphic violence that recounts the scenes of the crucifixion, Mel's film has produced the positive result of raising Bible sales in Australia. As the Herald Sun recently published, the executive director of the Australian Bible Society informed that sales of Bibles have risen by about 20 per cent and distributors are actually battling to meet the demand of people who want to know about the Gospels. Who would have thought that a wild Aussie actor would have a religious experience and make a powerful film that has everyone talking about Jesus and the Cross? Television, radio, newspapers, are all talking about this man Jesus. Who would have thought that this film would be a number one box office hit in the US in its first week? As followers of Jesus it is time to take our spiritual responsibilities more seriously. May the strong scenes of this film, which show the ultimate sacrifice of the Son of God dying an agonising death because our sins were poured into His body, re-establish the Christianity that boldly evokes the presence of the Holy Spirit in everyday life. Let us take heart and serve Jesus more openly and clearly in our workplaces.
