Suicide of Stockbroker Rene Rivkin:

It was a far cry from his days as one of the country's most flamboyant stockbrokers with connections in very high places. But in recent years, Mr Rivkin's name has been synonymous with controversy. Along with the insider trading conviction, Mr Rivkin was caught up in the investigation into the death of Sydney model Caroline Byrne. Mr Rivkin sued a number of media outlets who linked him to the suspected murder because his chauffeur was the woman's boyfriend. But a 1993 fire at a Sydney printing factory and a subsequent $53 million insurance windfall was posing a much greater problem. The former stockbroker was being investigated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission over whether he, along with former Labor senator Graham Richardson and businessman Trevor Kennedy, owned shares in the printing company, Offset Alpine. The corporate watchdog has confirmed it'll be continuing its investigation into Offset Alpine share trading. But the death of its potential star witness could make an already complex task considerably harder.
