Introduction

Marketplace Champions are Christians connected with their God on a 24/7 basis. This has primary relevance in the marketplace because that is where working people spend some 67% of their waking time Monday to Friday.

Marketplace Champions have an exciting call to champion the cause of the marketplace:

  • in their local church
  • in their workplace.

Why get together in the marketplace?

In isolation we are fragmented and easily intimidated by the force of secularism. We are in a battle... and which army can fight a battle without being trained into an effective team? This requires Kingdom focus, relationships, connectedness, training, and resources.

 

In Isaiah the prophet warns:

 

We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all (Isa 53:6)

 

This is the territory of isolation! But we are amongst those called to be focussed overcomers:

 

seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well (Matt 6:33)

 

and we are called to teamwork:

 

From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work (Eph 4:16).

Living Letters

In the past many Christians have been stuck in the old social paradigm where they don't talk about religion and politics at work.

 

Yet if we are not willing to be transparent about the God who is at the root of our lives, how can we have a relationship of integrity with our non-Christian colleagues at work?

 

Jesus said we will be his witnesses... not go and witness (Acts 1:8). In other words, you may not be an evangelist but you will be a witness. The question is this: will you be a good or a bad witness? God wants you to be a great witness for his son.

 

In the marketplace this witness is built on the following foundations: being...

  • competent

  • consistent

  • caring

  • credible

  • committed

  • connected

  • creative.

It is essentially through these Holy Spirit empowered attributes, along with the Fruit of the Spirit and the Gifts of the Spirit, that you may be the first letter from God that your non-Christian work colleague reads (2 Cor 3:3).

Marketplace Champions Forums

These are gatherings of marketplace leaders where they can find:

  • relationships with other Christians sharing the same vision

  • refuge in a safe place where experiences can be shared and encouragement received

  • resources to grow and develop marketplace strategic small groups. This includes web links, books, audio CD's and seminar DVD's

  • IT capacity based on the AMC web site which includes space for your own group web page and provides the OnWatch, MELnet and MCForum email bulletins

  • networking with the wider Christian community through the resources of AMC

  • training to grow your effectiveness for Christ where you are already strategically placed.

  • teaching through forums, sermons and seminars to support you champion the cause of Christ in the marketplace

  • events to complement your ministry from premier prayer breakfasts to visiting speakers.
